Biography of  Charles Harvey Lane  Born March 11, 1844, in Middletown, Conn.  Son of Prof. Harvey B. Lane, Wesleyan, Class of 1835.  Entered college with Class of '64, stayed Freshman year, then took Sophomore and Junior years with Class of '65.      1864-70, With H. B. Lane in the book business. 1870-80, In the employ of Messrs. Becar & Co., New York City, the oldest dry goods importing house in America. 1880, Went to London as representative of Messrs. Becar & Co. 1880-89, Lived in London, traveled about Europe. 1889, Returned to America, and established the Lyons Silk and Tapestry Co., at Patterson, N.J., the first and only mill in America that ever succeeded in producing fine upholstery silks by the power loom in place of the hand loom - still used in France and on the Continent. 1892, Health failed; lived quietly in Watertown, N.Y. 1895, Health partially restored; started a department store in New York City.  At present out of business.  In the summer traveling some, in the winter residing in New York City. Married, in 1876, Miss Nellie C. Campbell of Watertown, N.Y. No children. Address:  Union League Club, New York City.
